1999 Volvo S70 - ETS Light

Post by VCA »

Well, looks like it's my turn. Surging, bucking, ETS light on. ECM-9150 was the code I pulled off VADIS with my VCT2000. My dealer (The Volvo Store in Winter Park, FL) will see the car tomorrow, they actually volunteered to see it same day after I gave them the fault code, which was kind. It's still under the 10 yr/200k ETM warranty, so we'll see what they do tomorrow. As Drudge would say, "Developing..."

Sounds like they are good folks....let's hope they treat you right and don't give you the run-around with cleaning the throttle body, etc. Post back and also add your opinion about them in the opinion thread (bottom of forum) after your service with them.

Well, no run-around, but no warranty fix either :( Car was delivered 9/30/1998 according to Volvo's DMS. A quick AutoCheck pull now that I'm home confirmed the Virginia registration date (on or about Oct 10th). Clearly it falls out of warranty. I've authorized the work and will take it up with Volvo corporate and see if I can get a goodwill reimbursement for all or part of the cost...if not, no big deal, I'm the sort of person that budgets for these things.

UPDATE: Well, it seems I misread the AutoCheck, it didn't show it being registered in October (I thought it said the 12th of October), it was registered the 10th of December! I pulled a CarFax, and it shows the Pre-Delivery inspection being done on the 6th of October (after the supposed sale date) and registration the 14th of December (title issued two days later on the 16th). I've therefore sent a letter to the ETM Warranty department with these facts requesting the actual sale date of the car, and, if it's after or on November 13, 1998, a reimbursement for the repair. I'll let y'all know what happens.

Good find! Let's hope you have no trouble getting them to honor this.

Well, I thought it was anyway. Volvo Customer Care contacted the original dealer and got paperwork (faxed me a copy) showing the car was a service loaner, so the in-service date was 10/06. However, I wasn't completely SOL, they offered to rebate 30% of the cost of the ETM part--so just north of $200. Overall, I suppose I'm happy, out of warranty, but still with a little money back. :)

I'm pleased to report that the letter carrier (PC term for mailman) dropped off a $257 check from Volvo with their apologies. Christmas just got a bit happier. :)
