has anyone tried seafoam trans tune?

Post by Volvo s60 24t »

I was thinking about using it as a preventative before a flush. I've not had the valve body problem but I am very concerned about it (120kmi). I was thinking the flush may keep it fresh longer. Think it would help? Hurt? 2002 s60 2.4t w/auto trans (if thats not obvious already).

I'm just very fussy about the transmission and the AW transmission is fussy on its own. I have not heard of really anyone doing this. If you're concerned, do a regular full flush with the proper JWS-3309 fluid. There is a write-up on how to do the flush in the repair database, here: https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... hp?p=31653

These transmissions do not like additives and Seafoam a trans is rather odd.
I would just do a flush, make sure your software is new and see.

Thanks. I was going to do the regular flush after the trans tune. I was a little unsure of the seafoam for the transmission either - I'm not sure if its new or not but I've used the engine formula with success so thought - why not. I'll probably pass on it.

I'll do the regular flush and see.

JRL - new software ? Would it be a recall if I needed new software on this car? I know I dont have any open recalls... Not too familiar with how stuff works on that... Appreciate any help you can give.

No recalls on the tranny software- just that Volvo has continued to update its software, so it's worth having it. You'll end up paying whatever price they charge for it, but could be well worthwhile, and why not if it solves (or partially solves) the problems you're currently having. But you still need the tranny flush- Don't let the dealer talk you out of it.

Thanks, is there anyway to know whether or not I have the software without a trip to the dealer? If I do need it how much would I expect to pay for it do you think?

Again to clarify I'm not having any problems, just being Mr. Preventative.

If you frequent a particular dealer, you can call them and w/ your VIN or they will have your VIN stored from your name, they can look and see all the different services that they have done to your car. They should be able to tell you as well as what the software upgrade costs. I have heard that some dealers just go ahead and do all the system upgrades whenever a car comes in for service, but I know my local dealer doesn't do this.

This is new to me so I'll have to try and track down the dealer who serviced the car and see if they can send me the records. Thanks very much for all the input and advice :)
