Yeah, it would be good to figure out if it was sensors or the ABS module....seems more like sensors at the wheels if he was bleeding the brakes.

I know you say miles seem right but take a look again:
10/23/08 mileage 110,162
03/08/07 mileage 109,997
A year and 7 months and he only drove 165 miles?

If he thought something was wrong, and just parked it, I guess that's possible, but this seems fishy. Of course, Carfax is going to report the actual miles at the time. Rather than tampering, I would think the odometer gear was broken- a very common problem on all 850's. That said, you could get the dealer to pull information from the ECM to find the actual miles (they can do it if they know how- but many will just look at you funny). So, just be aware of this- might be best to talk to the previous owner to see about how many miles he thought he drove and if he replaced a broken odometer gear. This will come into play when considering how old the timing belt is and if it needs replacing. If this information can't be ascertained, then it's best to go ahead and change out the TB and tensioner (maybe even the other roller) to be on the safe side. A broken timing belt means a new engine.

That sounds like a great idea, I will call around on Monday to see about getting ECM done. Eventually I am going to have to ask the previous owner to get the correct information on this vehicle, I appreciate all your help! I will keep you posted..

Also I got response from Volvo-Forums.com

"The second code PO740 (incorrect 4th gear ratio) is likely a result of the torque converter switch malfunction code. This does not mean your transmission is toast. I believe it is an electrical solenoid that puts the torque converter into lockup mode. You either have some wiring that needs to have the connections cleaned up, or a bad solenoid. Winter
condition, salty wet conditions cause many electrical issues."

I am not sure where to find the torque converter wiring? Any references that you can think of that would helpful I have a haynes which helpful but I am wondering if there is anything else out there would be a little better.

Thanks,

I sent you an email of the exploded view of the transmission and torque converter- it includes the wiring harness for the solenoid(s)? Anyway, I hope it helps. I am also posting it here in case someone else has an issue with this. I would do stuff in this order:
1. Clean the wires
2. Change out the PNP switch if it is problematic
3. Flush the transmission once, maybe twice.
If no go- then consider a new transmission: http://www.lkqcorp.com seems to be a good place for a replacement (read this on V.S.) as is http://www.erievovo.com
Good luck!

If the PNP alleviates codes would it also alleviate the symptoms? Flashing Arrow Check engine and Limp mode?

I tried ratcheting the sift lever but that didn't seem to do anything. I will do as you suggested..

I finally got the previous owner to agree on fixing the car! I am suspicious regarding the odometer, I forget ask him about it last time we spoke but I will mention to him next time we talk.

Also I want to thank you for all your help!! I greatly appreciate all that you done for me.

More information: After checking the service records it looks like it was recommended back in 08/2006 @ 102,645 miles to replace the ABS Module which wasn't done: Also it looks like in 12/08 @ 110,162 it would appear that the ABS & Tracs light come on but only was cleared?

Could it be possible that ABS Module is causing all these problems? Like Arrow Flashing & Check Engine coming on and the vehicle going into Limp Mode? Or is that a totally separate issue?

Thanks

Depending, when the ABS module goes on these cars all kinds of problems show up (some- unrelated but usually not all of your issue- flashing up arrow and limp mode). Is the ABS/TRACS light on on your dash now? You know there's several guys that rebuild these for a fraction of what the dealer charges, or you could attempt the self-repair in the repair database if this is the issue.

Currently the Arrow (not flashing) and Check Engine are light go on.

Arrow stops flashing after it's out of Limp Mode but remains on.

Thanks

Is the "W" (winter) mode button pressed in on the center console shift area?
