96 850 Transmission no Reverse or Drive P0733 and P0734

Post by wild03 »

Hi all.

A brief history. Car has 90k miles. It had issues with bad head gasket causing overheating, it had internal leak on radiator into transmission, Found transmission full of gray GOO. Replaced radiator and fixed head gasket, new timing belt, water pump. Engine runs nice now. I did a few flushes to the transmission. Fluid seems now clean.

After head job took car for a spin around block, all seem fine. then it lost reverse. reverse will come and go. after more flushes and some Lucas treatment took car for a few miles drive. back at home reverse was gone and then forward started to go, I would let car sit for a few minutes and forward would come back start slipping and go again. now Its gone for good.

I read the codes,
VIN starts with YV1LS5559t... in case that helps. I found a thread that talks about replacing solenoids,
Which should I be looking at? also should the valve body be removed and cleaned?

Any suggestions? Thanks.

I would probably plan on a tranny replacement.

Thanks for the reply, I want to exhaust cheaper options if possible, it doesn't hurt to try cleaning things if the tranny is trashed anyways. Any suggestions?

Here's the post I was referring to.https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... =1&t=47779
