Ok, belt is back on, and i am reassembling this beast......there is a hard plastic piece that I slid off that is a shield for the auzxiliaries belt (i think). curved with some funky tabs that I think attach itto the rear timing belt cover. when taking it off, it simply slid away from the front of the engine (a bit of swearing, but not bad) but I cannot find how it goest back together. any one have a picture or know what I am talking about. .... I am in the easy part now but can't seem to figure out how this piece fits
Thanks in advance.

Nope, that is the upper cover. My problem is down by the crank and vibration damper. Do you have pictures of that??

So there was no need to pull the crankshaft pulley off to replace the timing belt?

No....if you're careful you can twist and wiggle it out from under it...same goes with installing a new belt. Some people cut the belt but to be honest, if you don't force it, when you least expect it, it will just slide out. When installing, twist the belt so the ribbed facing is towards the engine and it will slide in easier. Once it's in, you can turn it the right way.

I am done now (eureka). Observations:
1) for me there is NO WAY that i could have done it without pulling the main crank shart and pulley and looking at it, I don't think the clearance was there even if you were really good at this
2) In a few critical spots, my car was different than the VADIS info: the serpentine belt tensionner and the instructions for the oil shield near the crank
3) the water pump: damn! hard to get in and out but you can and to install you really have to have good light and have to put in the top front corner first. all while making sure the gasket stays on the two position posts.
4) did not replace the serpentine belt tensioner but if I had wanted to, I am not sure it would have come out of the space between fender and engine.
cheers, not for the faint of heart

Recently I had to do a brake job on my 1966 Chevy Chevelle.
I found that by taking photos with my digital camera as I took the parts off made my life my easier when I went to reassemble the brakes especially the springs etc. I could easily download the pics to my computer and blow them up if I got stuck.

I do the same thing with my phone. Then if I get stuck I just pix-message the photos to my email account and take a look.Donmystic1 wrote:Recently I had to do a brake job on my 1966 Chevy Chevelle.
