1999 V70 Starting Difficulty

I have a non-turbo V70 that has difficulty starting. When the engine turns over and runs for a second, it suddenly will shuts off. This will occur a few times when trying to start, then all of a sudden it will start up and run fine. The problem occurs about 75% of the time when starting and the car, however, the car will run great once started. I had the Immobilizer replace by the dealership, and it started up great for a couple of weeks without any problems. The ETM has been checked and cleaned. What else could be the problem?

sounds like 2 posibilities, fuel, or spark.... I would start with fuel pressure, guage up to the schraeder valve in the engine compartment drivers side at the end of the rail. I have to loosen the throttle cable pulley to get my guage in, but once your on the schraeder, you should get 43.5 PSI (850T, although I would guess it is similar for your model... check your manual to be sure) when the key is turned to position 2. You might check your fuel pump relay as well, remove it and jumper between terminals 1 and 3 (search online for fuel pump relay test) and see if the fuel pump runs... both pumps and relays tend to be common issues from what I have seen. If you don't already have a chilton's manual, it can be really helpful for troubleshooting and repair... this site also has repairs for the fuel pump relay if your electricaly savy.

the other easy step would be to do a tune up.... could be that the cap has moisture/corrosion in it that burns off as you go....
coils are easy to test too if you have a multimeter, again another resistance/moisture posibilty.
