Torquing Head, Degrees vs ft. lbs
Ok successfully extracted exhaust manifold bolts and now time to torque the head (lower section to block) Can this be achieved without an angle-gauge? I have done the 2 stage run on torques with my torque wrench now I can't find an angle-gauge to apply "degrees" for the 3rd and final stage of torque. Any suggestions?

Guess to what though? It seems that if I keep pulling it might strip. Because my monkey mind is thinking 130 degrees = 130 ft lbs. I would think that is wrong and rather go with a reference point for the torque wrench arm (lets say over the battery, to about 130deg which would be towards the ECU box) Am I thinking correctly? Man I am an ape sometimes.

I don't have an angle gauge for my ratchets but it is fairly easy to use the torque wrench to the prescribed preload and then, like MIJ said guesstimate the rest of the angle. It usually takes me two or three turns on a breaker bar to get to the prescribed angle but I figure that eyeballing 30° + 30° + 30° will equal a plus 90° torque spec. Crank additional degrees as necessary for your specific application. On my axles I'm not mighty enough to get the additional 60° so I just got them as tight as I could.

Others have posted that they feel that they're going to break those bolts as well...they are suppose to snug everything up and even stretch some- that's why it's not recommended to use them twice (though some do).

Or if still in doubt about this "monkey business", buy a gauge here :
1)http://ipdusa.com/product.asp?strParent ... rtRecord=1
or here
2) http://www.princessauto.com/PAcountry.c ... N&INF=home
I could not find it on line but I did see it in the Princess Auto store.
About the same price as IPD , for Canadian, forum members.

Mark a line on the bolt head with a fine tip Sharpie. then you'll know exactly when it has turned 120 degrees.

If you have access to a schoolboy's protractor, if they still use them, you can make your own angle gauge out of metal, plastic or MDF board.
If schoolboys don't use them now you can print one off at:

I built one in two minutes. Get a piece of cardboard, cut a hole in the middle that you socket fits through and draw your angles. put the socket on the bolt ,lay the cardboard over it and put your and breaker bar on, align the o% of the cardboard with the handle direction of the breaker and turn to the angle you drew on the cardboard
