inner tie rod replacement

In a failed attempt to get an alignment I found that my inner tie rods are "shot". Rather than coughing up $420 for the shop to do them I've decided to hit it myself this weekend. Ordered the parts from FCP and hopefully they will be on my doorstep sometime today. Wondering if there is anything special I should know about changing these out on this car? While I've changed my fair share of parts on Volvos I don’t think I've ever done inner tie rods. I'm assuming it shouldn’t be much effort than replacing an outer tie rod. Any write ups would be great if there is something "non-intuitive" in the process...

Does anyone know whats up with this white plastic piece? Its in my way to getting the inner tie rod removal tool in place but I cant seem to budge it. Any insight?

Wow, I've never seen that- but then again, I've never gotten in that far on a P2 car before- what's if for?

MIJ, I believe it's sole purpose is to piss me off. Finally chipped it away a little and we were able to get it off. Doesn't seem to do anything at all but what do I know.
