blown fuse replacement

Post by volvoskim »

My brother in law acccidentally popped a fuse while fitting a new bulb in his 1999 v40.
The fuse sits in the engine bay fuse box that also also runs the immobilizer.problem is getting the fuse out.Since its the immobilizer involved Im guessing its deliberately difficult to stop any would be thief just pulling the fuse,it certainly doesn't succumb to a quick look.
Ive photographed the fuse cluster in question, any one know the procedure for getting into this yellow fuse cluster?

Looks like a simple "fuse puller" tool would lift those out- I would not try to take the entire yellow part out... Thief can't pop the hood to get to them, I wouldn't think and once the fuse is pulled, I believe the car is in "shut-down" mode, but I can't be sure of that.

It's hard to see from that angle, but it looks like the yellow tabs may be over the top of each end of the fuse.

If that's the case, you might try getting a second person involved, have them spread the tabs with a couple of small screwdrivers, then pull the fuse straight up with a small pair of needle nose pliers.

Not sure why they'd be captured like that, anyone have any ideas?
