What kind of battery??

When I bought my car it came with a cheap replacement battery and I think it's starting to go. What brand of battery should I go with?

Another quick question. I might replace my speakers later this summer. What size are the speakers throughout the car and what kind of speakers should I look into?

good afternoon mrreilly

for the battery i chose a higher quality battery from a nationwide chain, i personaly look for the highest cold crank amps i beleive it has to be above 600 cca (i live in a cold to very cold climate 4 to 5 months in the year) up to now no complaints...

as for speakers these are the specs for the 850 model

front doors
6-1/2"

rear speakers
6" x 9"

As far as speakers go I couldn't get 6x9s to fit into my OEM housings. Here is how I did mine.

As much as I despise Wal-Mart, I did buy my battery there.

Group 48, which is bigger than the stock group 47 for $66. something like 660cca. that's half the price sears wants for the same size.

Group 48 is a good suggestion. I bought an Autocraft group 48 (700 cca) and have had no problems. The group 48 fit with no adjustments needed.

I bought a group 47 Bosch from PepBoys last summer while they were on sale and got a $10 rebate to boot!

Thanks for all the advice! I'll look into a 47 group battery. I'll probably shoot for one of the well known brands as long as it doesn't cost too much. Thanks for the speaker info as well I may take care of those later this summer.

Keep in mind that a lot of the batteries are made by the same company and just have different names put on them. I have a Napa Gold in mine and it says it was replaced in '02 and it is still doing good. I think how long it lasts really depends on how it is maintained and if it gets drained all the time by leaving lights on or having the radio on with the engine off. Always make sure the water in the cells is kept full and keep it clean.

I have a Autolite battery from Kragen (OReilly's) and this battery is actually seeping acid from the side seams and even one of the vent ports which is covered with a rubber plug is getting pushed out (the other vent, i placed a vac hose on it (leading to the ground) so it doesn't vent into the engine bay).

I took it in for warranty replacement, and they denied the warranty (even though the battery was 9 months old), because they ran it through their 'tester' and it said the battery was good. According to their store policy they cannot accept a battery back if it rates as good by their checker.

I need to go back there when I find the time to talk to their manager, and discuss that policy. Its down right dangerous to have that battery with it leaking acid (streaking trails of it along the side of the battery). The battery could potentially leak acid that corodes electrical wiring and because its near the headlight, if it takes out my headlights at night and I get into a accident....

I'm going off on a tangent here, but simply put, I'm not going to buy another battery from them again. I could still get a new battery if I suck out some the acid inside, then there is no way its gonna register as a 'good' battery....

in most cases, there is no price difference between a group 47 and a group 48 battery, except that you end up with roughly 15% extra cold cranking amps when you go for the group 48 battery.... so if they cost the same and they both fit in the factory battery tray, why not go for the group 48 battery?
