Re: Volvo Radio Light Bulb Replacement

Post by jadnhm »

I am in Moncton, NB, Canada.

I went to buy some of these bulbs for my radio from the local Honda dealer and they wanted $9.00 CAN for EACH BULB!!

Holy CRAP!

I am going to order them from mouser.com instead. Even with $20.00 shipping I can buy them cheaper there (~$1.00/bulb).

I just thought I'd let everyone know that it looks like Honda is in on the joke now too and charging and arm+leg for these things.

I got this tip from this forum, just replaced a few of these a couple weeks ago, I don't know about Canada, but here (US) the Radioshack part number is 2721092, they are 12V 60mA type 1 bulbs. They cost about $1 US for a 2 pack. I would check there if you haven't already, I still can't imagine why they would charge $20 for shipping, seems high...

Many businesses make all their profit on shipping and handling charges.

Maybe we should try Hyundai or Kia! :)

I have a 2001 S40 with a HU-415 Radio. Would replacing my bulbs be similar to the procedure and parts outlined here? Thanks!!

Hi,
Your article was excellent. Trouble is, the left side of my radio seems to be stuck. The right side starts to come out ok but the left side is solid. Any thoughts?
Peter

I assume you pushed in the arms on each side...did the side that is stuck come pop out all the way? Without it popping out all the way, there's a little latch that catches and keeps things from sliding forward.

Hi
Yes, both handles come all the way out but when I pull, only the right side starts to move. Can I get to this by removing the temp control panel?
Thanks
regards. Peter

You can try that- I say that there's a wire hung up...you might try pushing it in a bit and then wiggling out slowly. It's a pain to get the climate control out however without the radio out of the way (I really wouldn't know where to tell you to start).

hey!

Thanks for posting the guide, it has been very useful.

Just wondering how the rest of you got the little blue covers off. I've tried pulling but it just wont come off. I don't want to break the bulb.

Thanks, it turned out in the end that someone had stuck it in with double sided tape (probably to stop a rattle) Doesn't make life easy though.
