V70 2000 transmission

Post by calounette »

hello,

I am a recent owner of a 2000 V70 65kmi. I have read in the forum that the transmission had a tendancy to shift to neutral when throttle is released and that a software fixes the problem. Mine car has the problem at low speed. I would like to know if the discrepancy could quickly harm the transmission. How do Volvo dealers deal with the problem, do they charge something, how much ( the dealer close to me is not famous for being cheap ...)?
The trans fluid has never been chnaged, I suppose it would be wise to do so now. However I have concern with the procedure given here because it applies to previous model ? What would be the difference in the procedure(for example I can't find any dipstick, capacity is not given...)
Thanks

The software upgrade applies to models 2001 and newer. If you have an AWD V70, there is a procedure that replaces the transmission fluid with a synthetic fluid from volvo, but it's evpensive. The fluid is about $60 a gallon and requires 4 gallons. You may also have a problem with the valve body in the transmission.

I just had the transmission control module of my V70 classic from 2000 updated with new software. A new version of the neutral control was installed at the same time. The car has a 2,4 liter engine with 5 speed automatic transmission that is also used in the new V70N. Here in Sweden I had to pay 700 crowns (approximately 100 us dollars) for the update. It is absolutely worth it. No change of transmission fluid was needed and the transmission now changes gears very smoothly.

In Sweden the number of the software updates are:

- VO 30677008 for the transmission control module
- VO 8691426 for the neutral control
