I have got problems with my clutch. It is a Volvo 740 from 1985. Sometimes it does not open as it should, so it is difficult to get in the first gear and reverse when the car is not moving. Especially the reverse sounds terrible. The clutch is working good most of the days, but some days....... I have checked the wire from the pedal, and it is correctly adjusted with 1-3 mm play. I do not feel any difference in the pedal when it is good or having a bad day.
Can the splines for the friction disk be "stocked" on the primary gearbox shaft, because lack of grease? Could it be something else?
Clutch problem
Yes, it sounds like the clutch disk is sticking on the input shaft. This can happen usually from a mixture of transmission oil and clutch dust which forms a sticky paste inside the bellhousing and on the input shaft. No real good fix without pulling the trany and when you do all that work you might as well replace the clutch.
