Ever wonder what happened to "The Customer is Always Right"? I sure as heck do. I found out today that it is the policy of my local "#1 volvo dealer in new england" to argue with their customers over their own mistakes. Here's my story:
I left on deployment overseas, leaving my wife home alone with my Volvo 850 (only 112000 miles, so I figure its going to do just fine). Well, the thing dies on her and won't start. She has it towed to the Dealer. They say it is he PNP switch, and it will cost 400 dollars to install. She pays and they install it. The car does the same thing twice more. She takes it to the dealer twice more and they say there is nothing wrong with it.
I return home and take a look at the problem and decide it is outside my current ability to fix. I take it to an independent Volvo dealer (they only deal in used volvos and have an excellent service department, and are technically not affiliated with VolvoCars in anyway). They show my the problem:
When they installed the PNP switch, they never screwed it down
I had them fix the switch and adjust it, then went right back to the DEALER. I told them what happened, and they told me it was my fault for not bringing it back to them so they could "check their work." I explained that it had been back twice, but since they didn't bother to document either time, they told me it hadn't been.
I finally told them that I thought that they had taken advantage of a situation in which they knew they would only deal with my wife, and that they were not acting like a "#1" Volvo Dealer.
So, he decides that he will refund the money I spent for the other garage to look at it. I use that money to purchase a steel rim for my car. I then ask them to install it, and the man tells me he will no longer work on my Volvo!!!!!! He says that if I think he is that incompetent, then he will not allow my car in his garage. WOW.
Did I mention I bought the car from this place? I think it is safe to say that their SERVICE DEPARTMENT SUCKS. Anyone else have similar stories about their dealers?

I had rather good experience with the Volvo dealer in Cary, NC. They even checked the computer codes for me for free twice already. I haven't had much work done there (other than a brake job when I first bought the car) because of their Volvo-level pricing.

You also need to make a complaint with Volvo North America and the BBB. This will also affect the dealerships relationship with corperate.
