Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

S80 T6 2000 Replacing steering gear

Post by jdhendrix »

This site has helped me a lot over the past couple of years, so I want to start off by thanking everybody that has contributed there posts and responses in the past.
Now onto my car's problem: I just found out today I have a crack in the steering gear (the crack is on the top side of smooth pipe, roughly under the brake pedal) and it is almost completely draining the power steering reservoir. I have been looking for a how-to, but without much look, does anybody know of one or do I need to get myself a subscription for VIDA?
Also how intensive (time and expertise) would this be? Within the past year or so I've had to replace the front suspension, 02 sensors, and the alternator, so I have learned and accomplished a lot. However, after been under the car for awhile and reading this how-to for an 850 (http://volvospeed.com/Repair/power_steering.pdf), I feel like I'll have my hands full.
Any and all comments and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Do you mean you have a crack in a hose? Can you post a picture?
