V70 1998 AC Problem

Folks,

I've got a problem with the AC on my V70 wagon. It works okay when I first turn it on but eventually starts blowing warm air. If I turn it off and then back on, it will work again for a while. It seems like it cycles off but then doesn't come back on?

The air isn't overly cold but definately is working some. I added some coolant but the problem is still occuring.

Any ideas?

Also, does anyone have a pointer to a V70, 1998 factory service manual?

Thanks for the suggestion about checking the clutch gap. That could be it. I put a pressure guage on the line and cranked the AC to high. The pressure reading was in the 35psi range and it was putting out some reasonably cool air. That tells me the coolant level is probably okay.

One other thing I noticed... when I first start the car and the AC is on, the orange lights on the AC button flash for a little while and then go off. Seems like there is something else going on besides the clutch gap?

Is the fan blowing? Usually, when those lights blink the blower is not working properly.

The fan seems to be working fine.
Will an OBDII indentify this problem?

When the AC goes hot on you stop the car and look at the clutch to see if it's engaged. If it is, the gap is not the problem.

No, it takes a Volvo specific scan tool to read the climate unit codes.
