Volvo S80 2.5T, 2004 - Jet Airplane Sound
I just bought my first Volvo and I love it! However, when I shut off my car, I hear a sound for a few minutes kind of like a jet airplane engine. Is it the normal sound of the fan or a fan ready to die? I am assuming it is the fan...am I correct?

Well I occasionally have a fan that runs on for awhile after the engine is shut off. It happens usually on hot days. This is normal. It is cooling something down. Don't recall exactly what. Mine is a 1999 S80 T6. I wouldn't really call it the sound of a jet however but that may be what a fan sounds like to you....?
Are you in a hot climate?

I believe the electric radiator fans are thermostatically controlled, and will run for a while after the car shuts off.
There's another fan (maybe the same one?) that will come on after the cars been off for a short while. This is to dehumidify the air conditioner, to reduce the "dirty socks" syndrome...
(For a real "jet engine" type sound, find an old 850 and fire it up when it's cold. I've had a lot of comments back when I had my '94.)
Like any fan though, if it's rattling or whining, have someone check it, the bearings may be on their way out.
