My wife’s 04 V70 with the hid/bi-xenon lights is experiencing an odd issue. At times we get a message saying that bulb is out, and it is indeed out when I check it. However, the message will then disappear and the headlight is working fine. I understand that this might be a ballast issue. Is there any way to check to see if it is indeed a “bad” ballast? If it is, how difficult would it be to replace?
Thank you,
Roger
2004 v70 headlight issue/question
Check all of the electrical connections to the ballast first. If you pull the bulb try not to touch the glass. If you do, clean the glass with alcohol.
Ballasts are pretty expensive. Our V70 and S60 doesn't have HID's but my other car does. This ballast comes apart, if your V70 ballast does and you don't see anything wrong with the electrical connections you may want to open it up and see if you can find any bad solder connections on the PC board.
