850 GLT, 1995, SRS light stays on
Re: 850 GLT, 1995, SRS light stays on
I read, but don't understand very well, the manual you referred me to. Your instructions seem a shorter and clearer version of what the manual is telling me, so I'll follow yours. There are two things I need to know, though. (1) Do I do this procedure with the ignition on or off? and (2) If I don't do it correctly, can I really muck up the whole system? It's Saturday, so I don't expect to hear from you anytime soon, but I'll wait for your answer. Thanks.

Ignition on.
Fly wire to port number 5 on the B side of the boxes.
Press the button and hold it for about 1 second.
The LED will blink out one or more error codes and then quit blinking. Write the error codes down if you can.
After the codes quit blinking press and hold the button for 5 seconds and let off. The led should light up again. Press and hold the button for another 5 seconds.
At that point the codes should be cleared and the light should turn off.
It may take turning the ignition off again for the system to fully reset.
There is nothing that you can do to screw anything up while doing this procedure. If you make a mistake or your timing is incorrect on holding the button the worse thing that can happen is that the error codes won't read or the system will won't reset the warning light. If that happens just start over again after turning the ignition off and then on again.
Your shop is accurate on cars that were made after 1996, on your car you can do it all yourself.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. After 3 or 4 tries, I managed to erase the SRS light. The only blinks that appeared were a series of two's, i.e., 2-2-2. Can you tell me what this means? The not nearly as important Service Reminder Indicator light refuses to be erased, however. I take it the procedure you gave me should have erased both. Should I keep trying or is there another way to erase it? In any event, thank you so much.

If the light went out then I think you already erased the code. Code 2-2-2 was the code for passenger's side air bag - open circuit. That code was set when you forgot to plug that air bag back in. If it was still an open circuit the SRS light would come right back on.
