850 1994 climate control

This is my first post so please be patient with me. I have a 1994 850. MY climate control is not working. I can hear the blowers working at each speed setting, but when I select vent, floor, etc. it doesn't change. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is you climate control unit a manual version or the electronic version? They way to tell is to look at the temperature settings. If they are graduated in actual degrees then it is electronic, if you have a series of graduated width red bars it is a manual system.

Chances are there is a problem with either the mode damper motor or the shaft to the mode damper itself. The motor fits into a square splined shaft and, like every other plastic thing that Volvo ever made, it is subject to cracking. It can usually be repaired using epoxy and then reinforcing it with small gauge solid copper wire.

Since you have a '94 you can read the error codes from the climate unit through port B-1 in the underhood diagnostic ports and it may give more clues.

The mode damper motor is best accessed through the glove box and it is held on with a couple of torx screws.

You don't need to remove the entire dash to get to it but this is the best picture I have of the device you are looking for.
