It looks like I may be going the same route with Xemodex. I first noticed the cruise stop functioning a couple of days ago. I did some research on blown fuses, etc, and really didn't find anything. Then I experienced the wild surging, rpms in the 700-1500 range while driving, at stop lights, even stalling. Turning off and then on sometimes would cure it short term. Have stopped at a couple of shops and the first thing they ask is what year - and they said without a doubt it is the ETM. I will do a couple of ebay sales first and then make my long term investment in technology that will last considerably longer than the first (and replacement-77k mi)ETM installed by Volvo. I'll let you know my progress upon completion - first of this type of project by me in a long time (I'm an old Chevy/Buick/Ford guy - same concept just another vehicle). It is quite unfortunate that this is happening on my first venture into Volvos - but I did the same with the Fords. I had a 1984 5.0 Mustang convertible - automatic with the "newly" introduced throttle body "electronic" carburetor. This was a disaster from day one, but I stuck it out for a while until it was finally resolved.
Boy do I hate falling into these "first year" field engineering ventures - I thought only the big three were the ones to let the public field engineer and trial new technologies (GM diesels, V8/6/4, Chevy Vegas - aka "Valdeze").

been almost 9 months since i had the ETM issue.
UPDATE: I have logged almost 9000 since this install and never looked back. NEVER DID i get any other problems related to the ETM. I did replace the AWD tranny 6000 miles ago, 5 coil packs, 3 oil changes, and put gas in it. If you like dealing with the dealer, then try and get it warrantied. If not, its going to be money well spent!
BTW- tranny did not die from the ETM, i did not put Loctite (thread locking solution) on the torque converter bolts when i reinstalled it with the new engine.
