we have a 1990 volvo 740 wagon, 2.3.
the engine sometimes starts right away, sometimes not. we have to spray carb cleaner to get the car to start, then it runs fine.
if anyone has any solutions, it would be greatly appreciated.
so far the relay for the fuel pump has been replaced.
many thanks.

After you've used the carb cleaner (or are you using starting fluid?) does the car continue to run until you intentionally turn it off?
If so, when is the last time the throttle body was been cleaned? When I went to clean my throttle body, there was a considerable amount of varnish that came off when I cleaned it, even though it really didn't look like it was that bad. I wasn't having any starting problems but it can cause a no-start from what I read.
Let us know your findings
