HELP! Cert 2006 S60 "R"

Post by nan2cool »

Guys - I'd appreciate your opinion on this:

Do you think this is a good price? And how much do you recommed my bottom line price should be for this R?

Cert 2006 S60 "R"

- Internet Price: $22,000
Ref: KBB: $22,500
Ref: NADA: $20,600

- Mileage: 50,000

Thanks in advance!

In this day and age -- especially after the deep lull post-Cash-for-Clunkers -- dealers are probably dying to unload big-ticket cars.

I'd offer them $15k and start there. If you go in there letting them know that you think $500 off their asking price is a good deal, they're going to eat you alive. Fight them.

The cert program includes a warranty, yes? Or is that separate?

matthew1 - thanks a lot for your reply.
$22K covers extended warranty. 6yr/100K miles.

I originally went to this Volvo dealer to deal on Cert 2007 S80 3.2 with only 17K mileage. Its internet price was $23,992.

I asked them if it is the best they can do and then they offered $23,500. Of course, I did the routine to walk away since they didn't go lower. HOWEVER, they just let me go saying it is their rock bottom price.

Is this the other aspect of current car market?

I'd say "I can get an auto loan for $16k, max." And that you have a couple thousand in the bank you can use, and you like the R but there are a bunch out there. (Dealers can and do ship cars all the time.)

"However, this R is here, so let's try to make this work. What's your lowest price on it?"

They probably stick to their $22k number, then you'll have to leave and call them the next day. That way they know you're serious, but that you're not going to pay their number. The game really begins here.

Then call the day after that and talk about your trade in, if you have one. Then talk about what they'd throw in (5 free oil changes? tire rotations? etc) to make the deal. Keep a dialog going with the same guy. I'd be surprised if you didn't get it for less than their "lowest price".

Your best asset is knowing not every guy on the street has $22k to spend on a car these days. Their best is knowing that they don't need to make this deal with you to stay in business. (But it'll help more than ever to move a car.) :D

Thanks for great advice.

What kind of strategy can you suggest if I plan to make a down payment of $15K cash and financing the rest, say $5K-7K?

Hope I am not asking too much!

I just bought a 2005 S60R for $17700 - 41K miles, Certified. From Roger Beasley in Austin. They also had a 2006 and 2007, $22600 and $25000, those had 30K. Tell them that, that may help you negotiate. Those cars have been there at least 3 weeks, they're not moving fast at all.

matthew1 is the main guy here, so I'd follow his lead. But here's our quick similar story: visited ~8 dealers within 70 miles of Seattle looking for S60's and found an '06 S60 on an Acura lot ~$20K "out the door" including tax. Mileage <50K (Volvo's factory warranty runs out after 50K or Xyears) so we still had a few miles on factory warranty. Then checked Costco Auto buying club, and directed 75miles south to another dealer--they had 3 '06 S60's on their lot, each OK but one <30Kmileage, one ~45K and one >55K. We ended up with the lowest mileage S60, and only because they wouldn't initially meet our $20K total price demand--we told them of the other one at Acura lot, and they caved, so we were given the 20K price. We felt good afterwards too. Check out Costco, maybe it can save you some $ or at least direct you to more options?

Without posting the color and the options this is a hard question to answer but it seems a bit high.
17-18K should be the right number
