96 850 Parking brake cable options

So far so good. Had an interruption when a friend and ex-Volvo mechanic dropped in to get some help on trying to figure out if a set of 2000 V70R rear vented rotors, calipers, brackets and pads (with backing plate) would fit his 1997 850 AWD manual wagon. We figured that out, not leaving me much time to fit the cable. I compared it to the one that came off. All the lengths and mounting plates were in the same places and it installed fairly easily.

Based on 800artfreed's not above, I have not fitted up the brakes yet. I guess hopeful optimism so far that it may work ok. Tomorrow will be the truth telling once the hardware is fitted and adjustments made. We can only hope!! I have no idea if the previous one is a Volvo one but have doubts as the floor boot has no Volvo ID which I expect it to.

I'll update either way tomorrow.

Febi cable fitted nicely and adjusted up easily. Owner needs to use it as you may get some initial stretch on a new cable. Brakes no longer lock up which is a huge bonus!!

I agree with your view here. The only reason I used Febi last time as there were no P80's in the junkyard, and OE were on back order for an unspecified length of time as it was needed for an inspection now. Fortunately, and to my surprise, the Febi part fit perfectly this time!

Need to replace the parking brake cable on this car. Just called Volvo and it is on back order with no ETA!! I tried Pro parts Sweden in the past and they were junk and didn't even fit. The only other option we have found is a Febi part. Has anyone tried these and they were ok?

I did see another Viaco option at Rock Auto, but again no knowledge of the manufacturer or their part quality. I think that was at Rock Auto for around $80 CDN of which shipping was about 40% of the cost.

IPD? It says backorder, but they get stuff directly from Sweden....I'm assuming outside the normal US Volvo distribution, as that's the idea I was getting from customer service. I ordered a backordered hose, from them and it did take more than the "few days" they say, but I did get it.
