Isn’t the temple mount in Israel?

Maybe a stupid question -
Could a handy guy like Neil find a new rubber block mount the correct dimensions (and durometer?), cut up your existing mount, and bond (or screw) the rubber to the old steel?

* or is this one of the fancy hydraulic mounts?

All mounts (except the temple mount   ) have been replaced with OE Volvo ones. Sure that was done a few years ago (maybe 5-6?) but they are all good, but to keep Abscate sleeping at night I will recheck as it will be on the hoist anyway so easy to do. :D

I will find out in the next couple of days if the LHF wheel bearing is or is not the culprit and suitably update.

Once was at my mechanic and a women came in with a slight clunk/noise when turning the wheel one direction in a 05 XC70. It was very faint but noticeable in the quiet cabin. He undid the steering rack mount bolts and let it settle then tightened them back up. Solved the noise for her if i recall correctly.

I dont know if it applies to the bastards, however its an idea none the less.

I will know if the wheel bearing is hopefully the issue in the next day or 2, and while it is in the air I will check this too because I can get access easily. I could understand it if I was getting an issue on both turn directions but not only one direction. But hey, never say never with this car!

Classic FWB failure

When you turn away from a failing bearing ( right hand turn for a left side bearing) you load it by pressing the hub out against the bearing and it growls its anger at you. Turning back the other way unloads it. You probably won’t hear anything on the lift.

35-40 mph seems to be the sweet spot where road noise is minimal and bearing noise is loud enough to hear. SWMBO can hear it at 10-15 mph before me

I wonder in Neil prays to the wrong gods... I don't have another explanation why his R is such a PITA. It's not even old yet.
My Volvos hate not being used, but this can't be the reason for all the problems he's had.
Although, in the past people told me not driving a car will ruin the bearings.

I'm sure having the car standing for long periods of time is not ideal and will cause a point contact on the bearings. I'll have to see if I can just move the car even a small amount without starting it over the winter. I had thought about lifting the car off the ground and removing the wheels to reduce un-sprung weight on the wheel, but having the suspension without weight on them is also bad. No win there!

I have just come to the expectation that this car is just needy. It is like if a friends car I'm helping with has an issue, it immediately has the same problem. Last year a friends inner door handle spring broke so I replaced it for them. 2 weeks later the R's driver's door one broke.

This year my young student friends front right wheel bearing went out. A week later the R's left wheel bearing goes out. This has happened so many times it is scary! The shame is, when it runs it does run very well (I probably will now regret saying that) and my wife likes driving it. If it were not for that it would get booted out the garage!! :x

It is the same with parts. I checked with SKF before buying the bearings if they included the hardware and they said yes. Rock Auto says they don't. So instead of ordering the bolts ahead of time I have just ordered them from Volvo as the only local source. They are a week away. I have just ordered 4 from the dealer as they are $10 each CDN. They also wanted $20 for each axle bolt. I have new axle bolts in boot kits so I will use one of those, and I ordered the rest of the bolts from Volvo of Toronto at half the price but will take a week to get here.
Even the local dealer quotes 3-5 days for the parts. Seems the days of overnight parts has gone if ordered by noon.

You just need three more Rs.

If you run 4 P80s you order one of everything…it will be used

Could be worse, you could also own my 03 Toyota 4Runner V8 Ltd. It also likes to break, but only in really expensive ways. Currently (due to age, the car not me in this case!) it needs new rear airbags, pipes and the air tank. I was quoted $520 each for the airbags and $2800 + tax for the air tank.

Got the parts on order from overseas for half price on the airbags and fittings/seals and also the air-tank from Japan. The very kind EBay supplier have moved the delivery date by 3 weeks on the minimum side and way out to October for the worst case. Original ad was for end August early September. Might cancel that one as there are other suppliers at nearly the same price.

The joys of trying to run old cars on a budget is always full of laughs! (NOT!).

So I have taken the ungrateful piece of crap apart again and took the LHF wheel bearing out and replaced with a shiny new SKF unit and even expensive new Volvo E-Torx bolts. The PITA fought me every step except the actual E-Torx bolts. The tie-rod ball joint refused to come out and after severe hammering, PB Blaster it eventually let go, but only after I managed to nip the ball-joint end boot.

Cleaned everything, painted the knuckle and refitted everything and torqued as be the book. Wheel back and and took it for a run to glory in my achievement. No more turning right hub grumbling. Yay! But wait!! There is now a new knocking noise on the straight ahead that was not there before!! A constant knocking noise. Again can't pin it to where it is. I am at the point of finding a quite out the way area and taking a few matches and a can of gasoline. How is it possible for one damn car to constantly break as soon as you fix one thing another instantly breaks?? I am seriously considering just putting the winter storage tires on it and putting it away under covers and just forgetting about it.

I just have too many other projects that need done I just don't have any more time for it.
