I'm seeing a 2 pack of KARLYN for about $30 on eBay vs $46 each for Genuine Volvo at TASCA.

You can buy them from IPD or eEuroparts or just search the "part number"+ "Volvo" on google and you will find it.
RIP: 2000 V70 SE <- Rear end while parked.
Thanks for the tip. I actually just found Lemforders on Amazon.figmentj13 wrote:You can buy them from IPD or eEuroparts or just search the "part number"+ "Volvo" on google and you will find it.

P/N is W0133-1635686-LEM
It's pretty neat that Amazon even notes the SMI rack identification.
Code: Select all
Notes: SMI Brand Steering Service Plate Marking #5 This steering rod is referenced to vehicles with the product plate code mark of "5". The product plate is located on the driver's side wheel well. Check the 5th line of the plate for the last digit to the right of the divider to look for the correct steering gear code mark.-

Does the inner tie rod ball joint come with a grease pack or is it pre-greased with just a light coat?

Question: Would it help any to turn the wheel to extend the rack toward the side you are working on just a couple of inches so as to get better access for the pipe wrench to get a bite? It would have to be turned back to center to wrestle with getting the rear end of the boot on to rack (which looks like more fun than a barrel of monkeys
).
Thanks, MIJ, for posting this. Our 70 needs this work and I have been waffling about whether to attempt it along with control arms/ball joints and outer CV boots--all of which would probably be my undoing.

The inner's I got were ready for install, completely packed. Though I have a inner tie rod tool I used a pipe wrench for removal. easy and quick. I used the Karlyn boots with the supplied zip ties. I greased the rack side of the boot so it would slide onto the rack.

Working on inner tie-rod will damage steering rack if you are a first timer - failure would follow. Hammering, heating, excessive force, wrong tool is not recommended.dosbricks wrote:Question: Would it help any to turn the wheel to extend the rack toward the side you are working on just a couple of inches so as to get better access for the pipe wrench to get a bite? Save all the money you are spending on the tie-rods, and purchase a rebuild SMI rack. It will come with inner and outer tie-rod, boot, etc. Replace the entire steering rack. You will save and get ahead.

@xHeart
Do you have a link for the place that sells these rebuilt racks? Wondering what they cost.

Well, most people seem to manage it with a pipe wrench, I didn't. I'm glad I invested in the proper tool, was a breeze with it (and you can also use it without an impact gun no problem) and cheaper than letting a shop do it. (I think it was this one or similar http://www.amazon.de/NBS-Werkzeuge-Spur ... B009K8R6JG )Working on inner tie-rod will damage steering rack if you are a first timer - failure would follow. In US, our MVS erikv11 recommended Jorgen Auto http://www.jorgenauto.com/rack-pinion/volvo.html.
I installed TRW, helpful tech.
