changed fuel filter - no major difference.
Noticing that when started cold, idle is smooth then once warmed up fairly shortly thereafter the idle quality becomes intermitent. Goes to 850 stays there then occasionally down to 500 and goes back up.
Just did back to back techron then seafoam hope thats not causing it.

Yep, I think the idle control valve is next. the throttle body got doused pretty clean as did the intake when I took the intake off during the oil trap replacement. I did not do the icv at that time. should have but since the other stuff took a while to do I wanted to just wrap it up.
Thanks I'll try that next and see what happens. One thing too is that the car had so many things done to it in a period of two weeks i think the computer probably freaked out and didnt know what to do-LOL.

Disconnect the battery for 20 minutes (make sure you have the radio code) to reset the computer's adaptives.

took iac off, noticed some slight green of what appeared to be minor corrosion unless Volvo uses a green grease. cleaned this off and then cleaned inside iac valve - did have some gunk but seemed difficult to fully clean. Also cleaned its connector. Ohms at prongs 1 and 3 were 23.2 (inside 18-28 range) with valve cold. I will try this again with it hot after running for awhile to see if it makes a difference. I suspect things might be changing once hot (intermitency)
Cleaning the IAC did seem to make a difference in the idle, things dont seem as bad, but not quite there yet. If the valve was a little cheaper I'd throw one at it, but I want to make sure before I replace.
A few questions have now been raised:
1. Is the Idle Air Control Valve supposed to hum when you turn the ignition key to the first position (no crank)? and keep humming as long as the key is in first position?
2. When first cranked from cold what are the rpms supposed to go up to before they fall to idle? I am getting about 2600 for 2-3 seconds then down to idle just under 1000.
Thanks Again. I think we are creeping up on it.
