Like Lazarus this thread is back from the dead...
I too have a '95 850 GLT and have considered the Scangauge II, as my car has a diagnostic port (OBD ?) but also has the OBD1 on board tester with little red LED, ya know "count the number of times the light blinks."
So I assume I've got an "in-between" years model as far as the OBD is concerned. The Scangauge II's web site claims the device is functional on the '95 model year 850s. I was hopping someone else on here had already guinea pigged this for me.
So what's the word? Is it going to work on my car?

The scanner I bought was this one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/OBD-2-US ... veQ5fTools
It works great with my 99' V70 Base Model. I can't vouch for other Volvo models though this one is supposed to have pretty much all the protocols covered for the various different OBD-II signals.
I only wanted to hook it up to my Netbook with XP Pro... and I didn't want to wait for one to ship from China for a few bucks less.... nor did I want a tool that was self contained as the PC based stuff is supported by many different software packages and can usually do a few things the standalone readers can't.
YMMV of course. I just recently did a ton of research on this before buying this one to diagnose my current issue.

Don't bother buying one. OBD I is a blessing in disguise. The OBD I system is much easier and much more accurate than the OBD II system. Plus, the OBD I is much much easier to use.

Um... I don't see it...
Where would I find it in our S70? And in the OP's pic? All I see is the heated seats button in the top left.

In the S70, there is a connector in the center armrest that flips up. Remove the OBD-II plastic cover, and there is your port.

I have no issue counting the blinks and looking up the code with the OBD1 system on my car, I am mostly interested in the Scangauge II's myriad of other features, as my car doesn't have the factory trip computer, and some of the extra gauges would be nice. Being able to "possibly" check and clear codes would just be a bonus in my case.polskamafia mjl wrote:Don't bother buying one. OBD I is a blessing in disguise. Copied from Scanguage II's website:
TRIP COMPUTER
Automatically tracks four sets of trip data - Each with 11 individually stored parameters.
Maximum Speed
Average Speed
Maximum Coolant Temperature
Maximum RPM
Driving Time
Driving Distance
Fuel Used
Trip Fuel Economy
Distance to Empty
Time to Empty
Fuel to Empty
DIGITAL GAUGES
Display 4 gauges at a time from the 12 built-in digital gauges. the information is presented in Real-time!
Fuel Economy
Fuel Rate
Battery Voltage
Coolant Temperature
Intake Air Temperature
Engine Speed (RPM)
Vehicle speed (MPH)
Manifold Pressure (not available on some vehicles)
Engine Load
Throttle Position
Ignition Timing
Open/Closed Loop
SCAN TOOL
The ScanGaugeII allows you to troubleshoot your own car, read error codes, and the conditions present when the error occurred. You can also turn off the “Check Engine” light and avoid those costly trips to the mechanic.
Reads Trouble Codes
Reads conditions that set the Trouble Code
Clears Trouble Codes
Turns off the "Check Engine" light
Tells you when vehicle is "Ready" to pass OBDII testing
Make and store up to 10 rewritable special codes
to send to the vehicle computer
This is what I suspect, but I was hoping to find someone with first hand experience. If you look at the link I posted earlier, they claim that it is compatible with 1995 Volvo 850s. I guess I may have to talk to the folks that make it.adk793 wrote:You guys don't get it, but i read this in my OBD II scanner book. Though it may look like an OBD II port, it wont actually ready you the information with an OBS II scanner

Didn't see yours. It should. 95 Volvos were completely OBDII complaint (and also retained the OBDI system) whereas most other makes of cars weren't until 1996.

It's just like Volvo to be 1 step ahead of everyone else.jablackburn wrote:Didn't see yours. It should. 95 Volvos were completely OBDII complaint (and also retained the OBDI system) whereas most other makes of cars weren't until 1996.
I would just verify the connector works at an advance autoparts. If their scanner works they may be able to tell you which protocol it uses and you can verify the scantool you want also supports that protocol.
