Both the Blitzsafe and USA-Spec units require a 12V input to the "converter box." Where did you folks pull the 12V from?

My wife's Volvo has the top of the range stereo with cassette, single CD and radio in the dash. It has the option for the six disc but not the actual changer. Can I find the plug for the six disc and plug this into it so she can rock her mp3 player by using the aux button on the stereo?

Yes!
Btw, the instructions that come from Crutchfields should tell you where to splice into. I just shaved some insulation off of one of my wires and attached the USA-Spec 12V wire to it there and then wrapped in electrician's tape. I'm sure there are other ways to do it but mine has held up without issue. If you get one of these units and it is void of such information, I'll try to dig up what I did or maybe even pull my stereo to take a look for you.

I did some digging around, and I found the connectors for the rear of the SC-XXX series radios.

http://www.tehnomagazin.com/Auto-radio- ... nector.htm

I've read some conflicting reports that some boxes require an "always-on" 12V, some boxes require a "switched" 12V, and others require both!

Based on the wiring diagram, it looks like:

1) Switched from ignition - Pin 1

2) Always on - Pin 3

3) Switched from Radio (via power antenna) - Pin 5

Running the converter box off the "Switched from Radio" makes the most sense. The converter box would come on only when the radio is on.

For tapping the wires, I'd suggest using wire taps:

In theory, having the converter box come on only when the radio comes on is nice but some of these converters also charge the iPod, so I personally like having the power on to the converter all the time- really it's not much drain on the car battery.

Have been trying the magical ipod soldering setup on my 1996 960, but like other people in the threads, I don't seem to have the card/pins setup readily visible. The CD and casette connect in by the ribbon-y connectors (you can see how technically capable I am in this area).

The radio looks like it's a model 815--single CD on top and cassette below.

Anyone know if I'm attempting the impossible? I'm at my wits end, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I wish I knew- instead of bastardizing one of these (mine is an SC-816), I plan to get one of the BlitzSafe iPod connector units off of eBay... just look up "Blitzsafe Volvo" on eBay- a guy has them for $69 plus some change for shipping. I believe the difference between yours and the 816 is that yours is black and mine is dark gray.

Does anyone have the pinouts for the tape unit inside of the SC813 so that I can directly connect my mp3 player to the tape unit audio and ground pins. A guy on this forum connected his to the audio & ground pins of the SC810. The tape player is connected differently in the SC813 (there is a ribbon cable that connects the tape player to the head unit in the SC813).

I really enjoyed the sound when I directly connected my mp3 player to the tape unit in an sc810 I had.

Thanks for any help. This is my first post.
