Volvo S80 reliability - better stats

Starting this month we have a new question to measure, as objectively as possible, the severity of a problem. Many people have been asking for reliability stats that weight problems by how severe they are, and once we have enough responses with the revised survey we'll start providing this.

Also, updated reliability stats this month.

As always, the more owners participate, the better the information we can provide to everyone.

Car reliability research

We've updated results for the S80 to include owner experiences through September 30, 2010. Other sources of car reliability information won't cover the months since April until the summer or even fall of next year.

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2009: 143, small sample size and probably not accurate

2008: 68, about average

2000: 245, worse than average, very small sample size

1999: 194, worse than average, very small sample size

I wanted more information to update the Vehicle Dependability Study, which included repair rate. Then in late 2005, I started to bring people together to make this possible. Delta now threaten updates the actual rates of compensation, not only points, or four times a year, narrow track cars as they age.We had excellent participation by owners of Volvo, and I want to give some statistics for the XC60. Just a question to get enough interested owners, so I am glad that this forum has given permission to write this thread.Participants simply report repairs the month after they occur on a site survey. When there are no repairs, they simply report an approximate odometer reading four times a year, at the end of each quarter.To encourage participation, participants will have access to all matches, not just the XC60, for free.

2009: 75, about average, as expected earlier now falling in line with other years

2008: 58, about average

2007: 70, about average

2001: 159, worse than average

2000: 117, about average, much lower than last time and now more similar to the others

1999: 121, about average

Small and even very small sample sizes for all but the 2008, so most of these results are imprecise.

We'll have further updates in November and February. With more participants, we could provide more precise information and cover all model years.

2001: 209, worse than average - possibly inaccurate due to very small sample size

2000: 86, better than average

1999: 94, better than average
