Thanks for the post Lee.

I thought about that ... if there was a little liquid in there I could dry it out by backing the bolt out. But the torque sequence on reinstall would not be the same now that the head is tightened down. Would removing one (corner) head bolt be OK for the head?

Hard to say if it seated. The 15 and 44 ft-lb torque steps were the same as the other bolts, but the last 130 degrees I never got the really difficult resistance.

Right now it seems a toss-up between leaving it alone and taking it out.

I would be less concerned about the torque sequence since the head is already bolted down. Removing one bolt won't screw things up and you can just torque it back down. If they are new bolts you can likely get by with re-using it. If you did re-use the old bolts I would go for a replacement bolt since they tend to hate repeated angle torquing.

In the end it is your call since I can't see and feel what you have going on. If the bolt bottomed out much sooner than the others I think I would remove that bolt and have a look-see.

Finished up last night, car started right up and purrs. Hopefully the head gasket will maintain a nice seal ...

Cooling system I will flush a few times with water then refill with coolant.

Should I change the oil soon, or just regular OCI?

Well Done!

Any time you pull an engine apart stuff that has been hiding there in the oil galleys gets dislodged so an oil change in the next couple of hundred miles can't hurt anything. I wouldn't say that it is imperative but it is cheap and it may prevent problems down the road.
