2001 V70 power seats working intermittently
Re: 2001 V70 power seats not working intermittently
When all else fails, read the OWNER'S MANUAL.... After researching, I have learned that these "symptoms" of "intermittent driver's seat" are natural and normal. Perhaps a PSM is involved, but bottom line [from the owner's manual] is that there's a 10-minute window from the time the drivers's door is opened [as long as the door STAYS open] in which you can adjust the driver's power seat. If you close the door, the "adjustment window" decreases to 40 seconds. This should clear things up for all those who care to read this post. I was going to replace the PSM but after learning the car's logic, why bother? The 10-minute or 40-second windows are easy to live with. P.S.... love my newly-acquired 2001 Volvo V70. It's a basic plain-Jane model that gives me 40+ mpg at speeds of appx 50mph, and appx 32mpg when cruising the interstate at 70mph. Can't beat that! Who needs the turbo & 4WD...? the basic is just fine.

From the 2002 V70 manual
Ignition Key
Passenger seat :
The seat can only be adjusted if the ignition key is in position I or II.
Driver's seat: the seat can be adjusted if the ignition key is in position I or II. It can also be adjusted in the following circumstances:
1. Within 40 seconds of the ignition key being turned to the position 0 or removed from the ignition switch.
2. After you have unlocked the driver's door with the key or remote control, the driver's seat can be adjusted during a 10-minute period if the door remains open. If the door is closed, the seat can be adjusted for 40 seconds . The ignition key can be in position 0 or not yet inserted in the ignition switch.
So...unlock the car with the remote and leave the door open for adjustment.
