Re: '99 S-80 heater hose removal

Now have new Volvo OEM replacement heater hoses. Connector is very different from original. Do you just push it straight on as it appears to be spring loaded ie, only squeeze tabs for removal ??, turn or twist required ?? or squeeze tabs, push on and release tabs which will seal joint ?? This joint doesn't appear to be designed for a good ,pressure tight seal ?? Please help as I'm ready to replace

No one has responded as to the new hose ends being so different and how they fit on there? I posted some pics of the old and new heater hose ends. Mostly to see if I had the right part? What is the trick please

Hello,

I thought I'd ordered the wrong bits when I first got them... They do fit, but need to be firmly pushed onto the pipe in the bulkhead. Look at the end of the hose and squeeze/twist the release, you should see the bits that latch onto the bulkhead pipe move. (I'll have to look at the spare new hose I have tonight to provide more detailed info). To make sure they're secure, gently pull on the hose to make sure it doesn't come off.

Cheers,

Chris

'99 S80 old and new hose end pictures. One gentleman on here assured me they would fit. Couldn't get them on today.

If you are replacing the hose. The easy way is to just slip a screwdriver under the collar twist and break it. It will slip right off without the frustrations of trying to get 2 hands in there and figuring out how to turn it. It`s a metal tube the hose slips over so you can`t hurt it unless you get all ham handed. A wire cutter may help if you can`t quite break it. Of course if you want to reuse the hose you can`t do it that way. The new hoses have a different design which is much better.

Also the hoses are all like the new style in the pic. They are lubed on the inside, but it doesn`t hurt to use some silicone grease or even vaseline on the metal fitting at the fire wall. They just push on and you will hear a click. The push is fairly hard and make sure you push straight. It is a much better design than the old ones
