Re: the shocks. I took my car around several blocks full of different types of "speed' bumps. Every time I came up with rebound and bottoming out on the right front. So I'm gonna take a chance and replace only THAT shock. Cross your fingers.
About the hard steering: Please take a look if you have time and see if that;s what you were talking about (plastic blue connector with many wires, maybe 15, mounted in gray shell on edge of bolster betweek brake pedal andsteering shaft.)

NEVER, EVER replace one shock at these miles.
You ALWAYS replace shocks in pairs, (unless a shock breaks at 10K miles or under)
At over 120k miles they're all shot anyway as all shocks are.
At a minimum replace both front struts and spring seats. Optimally, you should replace all four
