Sounds like you have two issues. Battery and transmission (flashing arrow).

At night check your 850 for any lights on. For instance, my 850's trunk switch is broken. If I have the light switch set to "door", the light stays on even if the trunk is closed. Cost me a battery (that probably needed replacing in the next year anyway).

Look for the glove box light staying on. Listen for fans running. Etc. If it's none of that then you need to move to the next step: find the draw on the system with a voltmeter.

With the car off you test each circuit by removing a fuse, testing for current, repeat.

As for the arrow, get your codes:
http://www.troublecodes.net/Volvo/

Then report back here with the code and I'll help if I can.
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

Also -> Amazon link
. Click that when you go to buy something on Amazon and MVS gets a cut!

I don't know.

I have a '97 so I'm not familiar with the under-the-hood code retrieval method. Perhaps someone else here can shed more light on it for you.

Yes, you must place the connector (ground) in the corresponding socket (A1 is for the transmission, A2 for engine/fuel system, A3 is for brakes)
