He did not, but he can remove it from the car without unlocking those by prying it out... which sucks. He can then drill out the locks later in his garage once he gets it. I just think a weld wont be pried off with a handheld pry bar..

Don't know about the Yakima, but I picked up a Volvo rack, and they have a pin that locks in place on the underside of the door frame just above the window. So when the doors are locked you can't remove the rack unless you pry the actual doors open (which is what I had to do with the jammed door in the pnp yard). They don't have locks on them, but I guess they don't need them although there is a facility to add them from what I see.

The only issue with the more security you add, the chances are the more damage someone will do in trying to take it off. It is tough to be in your situation.

That is exactly what they did, and really not that hard to do. They were able to do it quickly and without much damage to the car. I just don't want random Joe driving down the street with a crow bar in his car at 2am to be able to do it so quickly/easily without more tools.

Yep, that's how mine (most? all?) work. The pins are pulled into the holes, then the doorframe holds the plate which holds the pins in. Then the actual lock prevents the plate from moving to the "open" position.

Someone could get my rack/basket off, but it would be an epic struggle that would destroy the rack's plates, and the pinholes and surrounding area of my 850's roof.

Yeah, They destroy the plates to get the rack off. A lot easier to do than you realize I think. At least the ones with only that small pin
