My personal opinion is that in mid Europe the convertibles are somehow taken as sporty cars, therefore they are a guys car.
Beside that it is funny to hear that Volvos are mostly driven by women in the states. Here ususally guys are buying the older ones because they are big and thursty, so "only" Volvo fanatics are buying those (which are usualy men).

I once saw a Rav4 that was driven by a male. I told him that, and he responded: It's my girlfriend's car.

Steve, be strong-"my" beetle conv is not a turbo, or a stick; it's powder blue and the tag says YAY ME! When we got the XC90 to replace MY minivan, I got the bug. Yay me! 
And that is why the stats are skewed, Women may drive a large amount of Volvos, but they may be owned and registered to men. (spouses)

1998 V70 T5, 112k sat 5 years, still in mechanical coma (finally at the top of the pile )
2004 XC90 T6 AWD: 186k, 60 on transaxle ( traded in )
1998 POS70 N/A: DD/training aid, 236k but really about 240k, I think...ABS module( passed on to son who sold it)
