Unfortunately the VIDA/DICE combo will only work with the 99+ cars. On '98 and older cars it has zero functionality through DICE although the VIDA program still will provide part numbers, diagrams, and repair instructions on the older cars. I bought my DICE from Shenzhen Zeus Technology Co., Ltd via AliExpress. Zero problems and Mike has purchased several through them as well - to the best of my knowledge he hasn't had any trouble either. I think the current price is around $85.00 but I paid extra to get it shipped DHL which I think was around $40.00 in freight.
It runs just fine on my laptop with Windows 7 Professional but you can make it run on lesser operating systems if you edit the hardware check file. The copy of VIDA that comes with the hardware is on a double layer DVD so you need a DVD player capable if reading a double layer disk or you can download and install the Virtual Machine version and and run the software on a XP system. The downloaded version doesn't need a DVD at all, it will install off of the hard drive. It takes forever for the program to install and I had to turn of the sleep function on my computer when I installed it since the computer kept timing out and going into power saving mode partway through the installation.
The links to the virtual machine downloads are in the VIDA/DICE forum as is a bunch of other stuff. My older versions of VIDA did not want to run with any browser after IE9 but I am going to try IE10 on one of my machines with VIDA 2014A and see if that will work. A bunch of websites that I use simply won't function with IE9 and I can't make the program that calls the browser default to Firefox. Push comes to shove I will just leave IE9 on my laptop and dedicate that machine to VIDA.
Buying through AliExpress is easy once you get past the logical apprehension about typing in your credit card information on a site in China. Thus far, and it has been about a year, no bad things have happened to my credit card as a result.
Once you get the system you should know exactly what the car is unhappy about and it will let you target the dealership pain in a more focused manner.

Thanks a mile Lee!
I haven't had any free time to mess with car or do any type of reading but today I snapped a picture of the part number on the white label ETM and that's 8644345. Further reading and this part comes from non turboed volvos especially s60s.
Are there two or three different ETMs floating around or can any part number ETM be configured to any car via software download?

There are multiple part numbers but they are basically the same thing. The yellow sticker has a different part number than the white sticker. Any of the pre-2000 ETMs can be configured to the turbo or N/A engine via the software download. There may even be compatibility with later model ETMs but I simply don't have any knowledge about Volvos after 2001 beyond seeing them on the street.RigsPGT wrote:Are there two or three different ETMs floating around or can any part number ETM be configured to any car via software download?
If you get an ETM from the same engine it will many times work without a download, not always but often. If you get a module from a N/A engine it can be programmed to work but it will not work when you first bolt it up.

The replacement throttle part number is now 36050564. There is another part number which is 36050563 which suits P80 V70s, S70s and P2 turbos. However the latter also suits turbo and non turbo S80s.
Volvo sometimes sends them out boxed with the above number which is a rebuilt unit with programming for non turbo P2 S60s and V70s yet lately is still sending out brand new yellow label 8644345s with no programming. Confused?? I don't blame you!!
If you want compatibility numbers the best site is XeModex.

I'm ready to order Vida/ Dice and was wondering what version gives you the less headaches making it work with my 99? I dont mind using older versions as I will only use it for this year model, just want something to run it and get going. By the way is this software easy to understand? I learned to mess with Megasquirt running it on a 94 turbo Probe but that wasn't a one day process. It took trial and error, countless hours of datalogging, tweaking, sweat, reading, bending rods and blowing engines. Of course this won't be the same as I'm only looking to figure the fault and spending almost $200 on dealer fee plus towing, I'd rather buy Vida/Dice and go from there.

Hi guys!
I received the scanner today and went ahead installing Vida (2013A version) on my laptop. Everything installed fine but now I have a few icons that showed up in the left side of the desktop and I remember the brief instructions mentioning a service icon on the lower right corner. Is there something I'm missing because this is what Im left with:
1-Vida All in One
2-Vida On Web
3-Vida Admin
4-Vida Configuration
When I click on the first one, Internet Explorer cannot open the webpage (remote device or resource won't accept the connection)
Vida on Web opens up but requires user ID and password which I don't have any
Vida admin requires the same information as above
last one opens up a configuration page for location, proxy settings, utilities, back up/restore, e update
thatI'm unfamiliar with
Can anyone please tell me what's wrong with this scenario? Any help would be appreciated!
Rigs
EDIT: I uninstalled Vida and reinstalled it back again but this time I downloaded the patch file found online and ran it right after the laptop restarted. I also was able to get to the login screen that required just a user name and entered "admin" per the instructions. Now the problem is that I cant login and this is the message I get:
Unknown error:
Please contact your local Helpdesk
Could not contact central systems.
Im getting one page closer till diagnosis

After you run the crack file just use the numbers 1 or 2 as the login. 1 will bring up the European version and 2 will bring up the North American (US) version. I always login as 2 as it helps with the peculiarities of the English language from a US perspective.
Don't use VIDA on the Web, just VIDA all in One.
On VIDA 2013A you may have browser trouble is you have anything later than IE9. 2014A does fine with IE10 but I'm not sure about 2013A.

I went from one login closer to way to far from even installing VIda. Problem 1 was that the seller advertised the version as 2013A but it was indeed 2014A. I even found the 2013A patch and used it on the 2014A software and that got rid of the login screen with both, user and password. While was using admin or 2, it looked as if Vida recognized it but somehow it was having a glitch
Anyway, after reading a thread about the 2014A installs someone was able to get it going with Win7 pro and IE9 with the help of the correct 2014A patch so I upgraded IE8 to IE9 and still no go. Now I can't even install Vida as before. I get an Error Number 0x80004005 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBMSLPCN]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.

What is a suitable software version for windows 7 pro 64-bit with IE8 or possibly 9?

Had some luck yesterday passing the login page but thats where it stopped. Dice flashes green (firmware OK) and Vida doesn't see it. Under the Vehicle Profile, the Communication Tool has no drop down window so you can select the device and that leads me to believe Dice hasn't been installed or its improperly installed.

What did it do after the login page? Were you able to manually enter the car information and bring up the parts list? If so, the DICE configuration is the problem but if you can't navigate anywhere after login then the browser is usually the issue.
