right the XC90 and s80 share mechanicals. The adapted GM minivan trans is right at its torque limit with the T-6 motor, and the XCs are heavy. Also, these models were AWD available to even more burden the trans. there are some aftermarket beef ups but they cost.. a LOT. Get an 03 s60 or V70 with the improved 5 speed and the Bosch ETM. newest, most modern and reliable (?) in the range you supplied. The S80 is a bigger car, it replaced the S90 in 99. again, go with later cars if you can, non t-6 cars held up well, engine is six cylinder version of our five.

Looks like you might know what you are talking about. I See you own one. Have you experienced those issues?

I agree with FLXC90. Stay away from the S80 as there are a lot of electronics that go wrong with them, the Auto box was weak, and the 6 cylinder engines had cylinder head gasket issues. Don't buy a XC90 until 2009 model year when they fixed most of the drive line issues. I'd go for 2003 S60/V70 given the choices and your budget.

Neal did you choose the 03 v70 because of my parameters or is there a better used year to look at ?
