96 850glt old looking for replacement

I am looking to get another Volvo.So,I would like to ask what might be the better volvo from 1996 to 2003
I use these date because I can't afford the newer Volvos . Opinions vary I know but your input would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

V70 series I & II,S60,S80.

As long as you stick with 5-cylinder engine....it's pretty much all the same.
6 cylinder T6 engine(twin turbo) & 2.9 non turbo in S80 are a bit different,but like every other engine...if it was maintained well,it is also good.It's Volvo.

I have been pleased with the 5 cyl. so point well taken. I love my car but the a/c is not working and I think this year had bad a/c. i CAN'T SEEM TO FIND AN 850 WITH A WORKING A/C. tHEY ALL SAY IT JUST NEEDS CHARGING BUT i KNOW BETTER Sorry caps locked on me. Didn't mean to shout. Plus my body is beat pretty bad

At this age, most 850/x70's a/c compressor clutch needs to be re-gapped.

It is done by either removing shims off the clutch (takes about 2-3 hours) or insert a bread clip or zip tie to jam the clutch so to decrease the gap. (takes about 15-30 minutes)

S80 have weak transmission, stay away.

Mine works perfectly.
About S80 transmission....it stands ONLY for T6 with auto transmission because auto transmission can't stand insane torque of T6 engine plus the weight of the car.

You have to remove the dash and replace holed components to fix AC. It isn't hard to do, and it's cheaper than fixing up a beat up 1990s Volvo or buying one in good shape.

A parts car is 1000 bucks, a good runner 3000-4000

Do the XC 90 have the same transmission problems. I just saw one on craigslist for 2300 with 144000 miles so I am thinking someone is trying to dump it. I read that these are GM transmissions and no good.
