Well I was probably being paranoid -- spending money makes me jumpy. fact is i just got back and the total will hit around 2200 for all the work. The oil cooler lines need to be replaced, they rebuilt the pcv system and the turbo was leaking coolant.they are also going to repair the cam seals. question --
if the cam seals need work that points to the clogged pcv? if the cam seals were damaged do I need to worry about anything else possibly being affected by the clogged pcv? or do the cam seals fail easier? (or a lot easier)? just trying to get a feel for my next 50K if I can get it out of the car (150kon it now). in the past 2 months I've totally rebuilt the suspension and brakes (did that myself), now doing the pcv, turbo leak, cam seals, I put in new rotor and cap, new plug wires -- keep all fluids changed with synthetic regularly. just wondering what else may be on the horizon if anything? guy at volvo said he has hardly ever had to a head gasket on an s70. anything else i need to have in mind?
wheel bearings? anything you guys can think of? -- big thanks

150k is pretty low for the age but if you still have the original water pump, change it and the T-stat when you do the TB. Inspect all hoses and connections in the cooling/heating Department (I changed mine at 150K regardless of condition for peace of mind). I would do the accessory belt and tensioner at that point too. Add a new fuel filter to the list.
It's very likely that the deferred PCV took out the cam seals; pay attention to the RMS, it may be on the go.
Now if I am reading correctly, you did your suspension and brakes by yourself, which means that you can save most of that 22 hundred stealership bill...

Wheel bearings - maybe - I had one trying to go out at about 140k and changed both for POM (peace of mind that is)

Cam seals are the first to go, they pop out much easier than the other seals. The other one to worry about is the rear main seal on the engine, they probably would have told you if that was a problem. Causes a leak on the bottom of the engine, where it connects to the transmission.

Upcoming repairs: the ABS module (if it hasn't died yet, then it will soon), keep an eye out for fuel pump or fuel relay failures, misc sensor problems (MAF, oxygen sensors). The car will go another 50k no problem, but likely there will be some repairs along the way.

I still have not had a wheel bearing fail yet on one of these P80 cars.

what's the rms is it the rear main seal? -- if the pcv took out the cam seals, you think the rms was "weakened"?

what is a seal anyway? is it that rubber part I see on fcp? god I hope not -- rubber? seriously?

let me ask something else -- don't need to do the timing belt for another 20k -- would replacing the water pump then make sense also? (save labor costs) -- kinda short on dough to do it now.

thanks a ton

regent's post suggested the water pump, read it again: Water pump can definitely wait until the timing belt job. If it isn't leaking or screeching now then I wouldn't touch it, 150k is not high at all for a factory water pump.

rms (rear main seal) either leas or it doesn't. If the Volvo techs didn't say anything then don't stress about it. They would probably charge about $1500 for an rms job, they would be all over it if it was leaking.
