Nice pic, that's got be be a sinking feeling to have one break off like that.

Now I wish I had put my scope in through the right side when I had the RH axle out. Does anyone know if you can see the end of the LH by looking through from the other side?

No, unfortunately.

Don't bother with aftermarket or mass-remanufactured axle, they are most likely junk.
