I replaced a starter in my 850 based on "infrequent starter not working" instances with a used one from a salvage yard. That was a couple of years ago.
I've been thinking of rebuilding my old starter and just found this site/vendor. http://www.aspwholesale.com/vehiclepartssearch.html

Starter replacement AAR. Took me about 4 hours. I'm no mechanic. Things that stand out: 1) getting the bottom starter bolt off was a bear, very tight quarters with a thick wiring cable running right next to it along with the lower radiator hose, installing the bolt was a challenge too - TIP starting the top bolt first helped line up the bottom bolt. 2) The locating pin on the replacement starter was about a 32 of inch longer than the pin on the starter I removed, I ended up grinding the pin down a hair - TIP measure the length of the locating pin on the replacement starter vs. the original before you install the replacement. 3) I had to add a couple washers to get the support bracket to line up correctly, the length of the replacement starter was shorter vs. the original by about a 1/16 of an inch.
Other than those few things everything came apart and went to together as expected. Car turned over strong and started immediately.

Odometer is broke, only says 70k or so miles. I'd like to figure which OBD-2 reader I need or that freeware that runs a virtual machine to read my ECU; get the actual mileage.
Looking back the starter had been slowly going downhill for the last year or so. I'll look over the old starter for any dates, identifying numbers when I box it up for mailing tonight; get my money back for the core.
