I have a large orange plastic cone on the steering wheel which means do not drive.
Sometimes I can't remember for a week why not, but at least Ive minimized damage...

I like the plastic cone on the steering wheel, but my memory loss and the possibility of my kids just putting it there to screw with me makes me think a sticky note on the steering wheel is the way to go.

I will never go to a gas station without my checklist and plastic cone ever again!

Example of Precision: Measure with a Micrometer, mark it with Chalk, and then cut it with an Axe.

Yeah, I'm thinking of taking video of all my wrenching so I can go back and check that I did all that stuff on the checklist...packetfire wrote:At risk of seeming pedantic, a checklist is a handy thing, which is why pilots, astronauts, surgeons, and other people who have incentive to avoid ever having to say "oops" use them, and obsess over them.
But when inserting a fastener, unless one needs to leave it loose to wiggle the assembly into place, one should tighten it when first inserting it.
I use my phone to take photos of things like my unplugged coffee pot before I leave on a trip, so I can show my wife, that yes dear, the coffeepot IS unplugged.

How about confusing your two minivans and installing the wrong rubber o-ring on the fuel rail, causing the car to blow up. Or, I lost my beemer from an oil pan crack that i 'forgot' to fill. Also, I once had to tape a mirror to my 1997 960 because the heated element wore out the glue on the mirror itself. I also made 2 oil changes in a day because I thought I saw fresh oil on the ground below my 01 v70 xc and panicked, but I forgot that i spilled a little.

Those of us on the wrong side of 40 know what you are talking about. My kids used to roll me the wrong tire when I rotated them and would hand me random wrenches when I asked them for a pair of pliers. How about the cone for the reminder, and a note on the cone for what it was for.Clockboy wrote:I like the plastic cone on the steering wheel, but my memory loss and the possibility of my kids just putting it there to screw with me makes me think a sticky note on the steering wheel is the way to go.
