Tire Pressure System Service Required - what to do?

What do these things weigh? Do they make a mess of tire balancing? (too many weights opposite this thing?)

2009 S60.
My wife and I bought an '09 S60 while we fix our '07 VR.
Car had the 'Tire Pressure System Service Required' (or something very close to it) message.
Tire shop checked the sensors and all 4 were inop.
They changed them all, yet the message was still there and the low tire light was still there. They shrugged, but said they were at least all now registering. Figured I'd go home and look on VIDA.
Was not happy but left as I had other things to do. Within a mile the 'tire system service' went out, and when
i cycled the ignition when I got home ~7 miles, the tire light was out.
Drove it tonight and all was good.
Don't like warning messages, glad it's gone. (for now)

The manual for my 2007 S60 says: "Drive the vehicle for several minutes at a speed of 20 mph or faster. This will erase the warning text and warning light will go out." Context: the manual assumes that you needed to correct tire pressure. Apparently this reset works for replacement sensors?

The tyre guy that fitted TMPS in my wheels thought i was crazy, but i think they are a good safety and fuel saving feature. This is what i will be trying when my aftermarket sensors go flat.

I use external sensors, they replace the dust cap, no need to break the bead of the tire, RX is located at the dash. $60 .

Has anyone replaced using Volvo TPMS, PN 31200923?

Let's say one buys Volvo TPMS.
Is there a need to go to dealer to reprogram sensors?
If so, what is the cost?
