I smashed the rear cover plate out of a AW50-42LE by bolting the torque converter to the driveplate/flywheel first about 3 years ago.

Wished I had picked that up on first read

You need to fit the torque converter to the transmission spline and then carefully insert the transmission onto the engine until the proper clearance is reached (this is viewable through the starter hole)

Thanks for the help! I'm up and running again.

I ended up ordering a pump and torque converter off ebay as both were messed up from the improper install.

I even put it together right!

All in all it was an expensive learning process but I cut my time in half doing it the second time.
