The silver canister is located between the number 1-2 cylinder. I hooked up my iPad today with the Dash Command app to try and pull codes. No codes but I also have no RPM's recording on my app it's flat lined. Could this indicate a bad Crankshaft Position Sensor not sending any info? I'm going to pull the CPS and take a ohm reading from the pigtail.
Your right it does sound like a lawn mower when it turns over. It will run if I feather the gas but it stumbles and grumbles and shakes. Then I turn the key off I don't want to damage a brand new fuel pump.
Thanks for keeping track of my issue....

The little dashpot thing is a fuel pressure damper and isn't the problem.
A hard start, no idle on a turbo is classic loose induction piping. Take off the heat shield in back and work your way from turbo to EAtM by removing each clamp, taking off the pipe, looking for cuts, splits, holes, and loose ends. You can't do this visually.

My hands look like they have been chewed on by a Rottweiler. I have checked all Turbo pipping from the intake to the exhaust. I see no cracks or splits I made sure all connections were tight. For the hell of it I did pull the crankshaft position sensor. It had a lot of metal shavings hanging off the end along with some rust. I pulled the sensor and did a ohm's test. It measured 0000 which would indicate a closed circuit and needs replacement. There should be some resistance 500 or more.. It should never go to infinity also that would indicate a open circuit. But being a Volvo who knows? What's your opinion?
Thanks
Chris

Yeah, that's a horrible job. Btdt.
Double check your coil connectors..did they go back on the right cylinders? That will ruin your day. Look carefully at the lay of the wires to see if the " look right"

I've ordered a new crankshaft position sensor after getting a reading of 000 on the multimeter. Rock Auto has the new Denso OE sensor for $55 the price was right. I'll try to
Complete the install today.
New crankshaft position sensor replaced, all hoses and connections tightened. Cranked over a few times sputtered then died. Cranked over again engine sputtered and I shut it off. No smell of raw gas... Still no codes getting ready to give up the ship.

Well the sensor is in the turbo pipes are tight we have 1/2 tank of fuel… Guess what crank crank shake shake stall,… it wants to run and does, stumbles and dies.....
Bottom line: New fuel filter, New Bosch VIN specific fuel pump No junk, New OEM Denso Crankshaft position sensor. Made sure all turbo intake and out tubing was tight.
Still no codes I'm going to pick at it tomorrow if no success then it's off to the steelership.
Yes the timing belt was replaced I should have 40,000 till the next replacement.....
I'm very surprised we only had one moderator to help out.......
Leave this open until I here back from the shop then I'll post the outcome.

What was the result of starter fluid in cylinders? Did it breathe fire?
We still aren't sure if it's fuel, ignition, or compression...

The compression test was right around 150 per cylinder. We do have spark but no fuel... I even tried to flood the cylinder on purpose. No raw gas smell after cranking the engine. I'll try the starter fluid tonight.
