V70 Cranks over no Start

Post by MBurt »

2000 Volvo V70 XC
Turned off never to start again.
Motor turns over, tries to fire initially then just cranks. I thought fuel issue so I replaced fuel pump and filter. No change. So checked for spark, spark is good. I replaced spark plugs since it was apart anyways. There is a negative pulse on injectors. 40ish psi on the fuel rail checked with a tire gauge. So diving deeper. I pulled fuel rail and injectors. Here's where I'm lost. Turning the car over with fuel rail loose injectors facing up spraying in the air. For the first couple cranks I get good spray then nothing. I pushed the schrader valve while cranking, fuel flows great even when injector stop spraying. I just got a code reader. Codes P1237 And P0442 I think P0442 was from a line I had inadvertently bumped off the intake tube while trying to get the tube off the top of the motor. Cleared codes still nothing. Tried the lawn mower trick. Checking compression tonight. Where to look next????

Cylinder 4 has low compression. But that shouldn't prevent starting. Have you tried jumping the fuel pump relay?

40psi well under spec of 50 psi

Give it a shot of starter fluid yo see if you get some fire in the hole.

This will separate ignition from fuel problem.

No change using starting fluid. Un plugged the MAF still nothing. I cleared all the codes with the new scanner. The 91A7, 91B7 Throttle position codes came back. Also when watching the real time data on the scanner the tps values aren't changing when pressing the pedal. I'm thinking it might be stuck closed. FUEL SPARK AIR Here are some videos

When I turned it over with the injectors removed it almost started.

Are you sure this isn’t an anti-theft issue?
Sounds kinda like the system doesn’t see
your ignition key chip.

Yep. If you don't get fire with starter fluid, it isn't igniting. And if it fires and stumbles for a second or two, then won't fire again, thats ME7 immobilizer behavior.

Is there a way to test or bypass the immobilizer system? I only have two keys and neither one of them start it.

I was still stuck on the TPS not reading. So I pulled the boot off of the throttle body and watched the butterflies while the gas pedal was pressed, they did not move. I reached up inside and pushed on the butterfly after a little resistance it started to move freely. I kind of mocked everything back together it started and runs. Guess I'll be pulling off the throttle body and doing some major cleaning.
