I put one in my '98 S70. It was not prewired, but I believe there was a write up on Volvospeed? or maybe Swedespeed and it was easy to follow and it was in in no time. Once over the years a spot developed in the mirror and spread and I had to replace it. that was no big deal either and was done in like 5 or 10 mins with wiring already in place.
Edit: The part number I ordered was 9464006 but it's been discontinued. It was a kit that came with all the wiring... You might still find it somewhere like eBay. I did a google search and my posts years ago showed up...apparently the mirror was warrantied for a year. Mine leaked within that year so my replacement was free. It's still working since like 2006! If you can't fine one, you might be able to take one out of a C70 in a junk yard that's still working...the wiring harness will come out and you'll be able to follow the wire to see where to install it. These fit all of our S/V/XC 70's through model year 2000.

I have a C70 mirror but no wiring. The closest junk yard is a few hours away. Do you have a schematic or know what wire color gets hooked up to what? There are only 3 white black and brown.MadeInJapan wrote:I put one in my '98 S70. I suppose I can open mine up and snaps some pictures...I frankly don't remember off the top of my head- this was 10 years ago that I installed that mirror! Let me know if you need me to do this- it will be the weekend before I have time to do it though.m96ag wrote: I have a C70 mirror but no wiring. The closest junk yard is a few hours away. Okay, I did a search and found this- I think it will help you! http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/topic/11 ... ng-mirror/
Conversely, here are the written instructions:
1) Removed the two len caps of the overhead console lights using a small screwdriver and pressing (hard) in the "tiny" rectangle/square at the end of the len caps.
2) There were 2 Torx10 (?) screws that needed to be unscrewed.
3) Removed the console light unit and unpluged the wiring.
4) Unscrewed the 2 Torx30 screws to remove the rearview mirror.
5) Unscrewed the 2 10mm bolts that holding the driverside visor.
6) Not need to remove the visor holding clip as stated in the installation manual. There were plently room to fish the mirror wiring thru the overhead liner.
7) I left the visor hang by the wire.
Undid the B pillar trim by pulling it out from the upper edge. The B-pillar didn't have to be out all the way. All we wanted was to access the "red" clip that lock the A-pillar and C-pillar.
9) Turned the "red" clip anticlockwise to separate the A--pillar from C-pillar.
10) Removed the A-pillar starting from the B-pillar and worked carefully to pull it out of the clips.
11) Fished the autodim mirror wiring from the console light area thru the overhead liner to the A-pillar.
12) Routed the wiring along the A-pillar (within the clips) and down to a hole at the bottom of A-pillar.
13) Unscrewed the driver side footwell panel (kick panel, whatever you call it).
14) Looked up from the footwell panel to the A-pillar area, you should the the hole at the bottom of the A-pillar.
15) Fished the wiring down this A-pillar hole.
16) Installed the autodim rearview mirror.
17) Pluged in the wiring to the mirror, and pulled wiring to the A-pillar side as much as possible to ensure that the wiring was long enough for connection in the footwell area.
18) Installed the console light unit and len caps.
19) Installed the A-pillar trim, "red" clip, and then B-pillar trim.
20) Looked up under the footwell, and you would see a "bright yellow" spare (8 pins)connector only with 6 wires on oneside and "NO" wire on the other.
21) Unpluged the yellow connector, and inserted the mirror wire pin (Orange/Brown) to pin 2 of the yellow connector. You needed to push the wire pin hard enough to lock the pin into the connector.
22) Inserted the black wire pin into the pin 8 of the yellow connector.
22) Plugged the yellow connector back into the other half. Now, you have the autodim mirror working at all times whenever you turn the key to I or II position.
23) Looked at the big black terminal with bunch of wires going inito it next to the A-pillar.
24) Looked for the "thick" blue wire which was also next to the A-pillar side from the big terminal. This "thick" blue wire is connected to the pin 16 of this big black terminal. This blue wire is the backup light 12V supply and only be active when the car is in R.
25) Sliced/tapped the blue wire of the autodim rearview mirror to this "thick blue" wire.
26) Now, you are done.
27) Installed the kick panel.
28) To test the mirror, start the car and cover the sensor in the back of the mirror. In daytime, the mirror will turn dim slowly by itself. It will turn back to normal when you remove the hand from the back sensor.
29) With the hand still cover the back sensor, with handbrake on and brake on, move the gear to R, the dimmed mirror should go back to normal condition.
30) Now, you are really done, and enjoy!!!!
