It's the spring seat you that is the first of the cheap parts to fail, and typically squeaks like you describe (I think!). You can check at the the top nut, put a big wrench or pliers on there and gently rotate. If there resistance, the rubber is intact. But if you can turn it, the rubber has torn through and the spring seat is shot.
Strut mounts get creaky when the bearings dry out or fail. There is no definitive test but if you have someone turn the wheel left and right (best to park on slick cement) while you are looking at the mount from the top, you can see a really bad one will stutter and creak.

So I tried to twist the upper cap to see if there's any movement. Nothing. It's still pretty tight.
So I don't think that's the case... Will definitely try to set a camera low to the ground so I can record the sound.
Thanks guys.

It requires quite a lot of force, not just twist it easily.

By hand it seems like a lot of force too twist it, but with a big wrench it moves easily - start to rotate it, you will either feel resistance or not. I said gently just because you don't want to shred the spring seat if it's not already broken. I wouldn't rely on testing by hand (unless it is so bad it just spins easily), get a tool on there.
